I’ve thought long and hard about this one. On the one hand, I’m all for supporting businesses and growth. But on the other-hand, self-promotion and offerings in a community is a very slippery slope. We’ve all been in communities where it just gets really spammy & annoying.
For this to be truly a space that’s delivers value without the fluff, I’ve decided to keep it “sales and promotion free”.
What isn't allowed:
- no offerings of products, goods or services
- no blog post promotion
- no social media “like my post” boosts
- no product hunt launches
- no discounts for your product or services (unless explicitly approved by Milly).
What is allowed:
- In your introduction, you can link to your work (your business, your blog etc). I see this as a fair way of sharing with folks what you’re working on. If it’s up their alley, they can subscribe on their own terms.
- Products that you’re using which have been genuinely helpful for you.
- Questions and feedback around your product or service. You may link it directly if it’s helpful to set context (please don’t take advantage of this leeway)
- Paid opportunities. If you’re hiring or have a paid opportunity that would be a good fit for the community, absolutely post it along with links.
DM’s to other Generalist World members selling products or services will result in a first-time warning & conversation, and a second time removal.
